The Institute of Local Exhaust Ventilation Engineers (ILEVE) has launched a Competency Matrix for laboratory LEV work.
The matrix, which has been collated by industry leaders for duty holders and responsible persons who are associated with laboratory LEV systems, illustrates the level of experience, skills and competence expected from those involved.
Supported by the ILEVE guidance on the CIBSE website, the matrix should be used to check what level of understanding of various LEV topics an individual in a specific job role should have to be deemed competent. This is identified with a basic 1,2,3 classification, with 3 representing in-depth detailed knowledge.
The matrix offers guidance for the range of roles involved in laboratory LEV, covering: design of systems; preparation of specification and quotation; installation and commissioning of systems devices; thorough examination and test of systems; maintenance of a LEV device and system; and changes, amendments and verification of a system or device.
It also suggests relevant training and learning for the specific duties associated with the roles.
The matrix has two parts – Industrial and Laboratory. For more information and to view the matrix visit: www.cibse.org/get-involved/societies/institute-of-local-exhaust-ventilation-engineers-ileve/lev-competency-matrix-overview
The ILEVE subcommittee would like to acknowledge the valued contribution, support, and time of all those involved in producing the document.
