Two very different buildings in London and Amsterdam have won the top accolades at the 2016 Façades Competition, organised by the Society of Façade Engineering.
Arup won Façade of the Year in the refurbishment category for its high-quality, tightly curved, glazed façade at 10 New Burlington Street in London.
TU Delft & ABT Consulting Engineers picked up the Outstanding Façade Innovation award for the Crystal Houses in Amsterdam
The winner of the Outstanding Façade Innovation was TU Delft & ABT Consulting Engineers, for the Crystal Houses in Amsterdam.
The façade – for luxury retailer Chanel – is made of glass bricks held together by a transparent, high-strength glue.
Towards the upper storeys, the glass bricks merge with the original terracotta brickwork.
The awards were presented at the annual Glass Supper event in London last month.
